Michael Hearst is a composer and multi-instrumentalist whose vast output is marked by a fascination with extremely specific themes. Most recently he has composed soundtracks for the movies The Untold Tales of Armistead Maupin, Chicken People, To Be Takei, and Magic Camp, among others. His music has also been featured in such shows as Bored To Death (HBO), Suburgatory (ABC), This American Life (Showtime), Ken Burns' Jackie Robinson (PBS), as well as numerous commercials, radio shows, theater productions, dance productions, and web series for clients including Wendy's, PBS Digital, ESPN, Science Friday, NPR, PRI, ConstructionKids, New York City Ballet, NASA, Gimlet Media, Breville, Starz, Weedmaps TV, Kate Weare Dance, Country Music Television, Arte France, Arte Germany, and the U.S. Department of State. Hearst has performed and given lectures and workshops at universities, museums, and cultural centers around the world. He has toured with The Magnetic Fields and performed with The Kronos Quartet at Carnegie Hall, and has appeared on such shows as NPR's Fresh Air, A+E's Breakfast With The Arts, and NBC's The Today Show.
